Shums Coda Associates, Inc. is a privately held company providing professional Building and Safety Consulting Services to jurisdictions to verify conformance with all applicable Building Codes. We are seeking full-time, experienced Plan Check Engineer within California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Nevada.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans, calculations and specifications for compliance with the most current adopted ordinances, laws, and state building codes.

  • Preparation of plans review comment letter according to municipality direction and SCA standards.

  • Meet and confer with the clients as-needed (via phone, email, virtual meeting or in-person) to clarify plan check comments.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional Civil or Structural Engineer

  • ICC Certified Plans Examiner with complete knowledge and full understanding of the International model building codes and standard construction methods.

  • Ability to review all structural systems and additional building systems as needed (i.e., architectural, accessibility, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, and green/sustainability)

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working for an engineering design firm or alternatively 2 (or more) years working as a Plan Check Engineer for a jurisdiction providing design or plan check reviews for both commercial and residential project types.

  • Basic computer knowledge related to Microsoft Office products and various plan review software such as BlueBeam (or similar AutoCad based products).

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited college.

  • Must successfully complete standard background investigation.
